Wilfried Nancy insisted he did not fear losing his job, claiming, “We are really close to a turnaround,” despite moving dangerously close to the exit with a convincing setback against the Ibrox side.

A Second-Half Collapse Sees Old Firm Defeat

The home side were ahead Rangers at half-time but a collapse after the break enabled the Gers to move level on points with the reigning league title holders. The former MLS manager, who was hired from the MLS, has now been in charge for six setbacks in his first eight matches.

“The board and I are united at the club,” insisted the manager.

Asked directly about his own future, Nancy responded: “I don’t think about it. I concentrate on working out methods to get the team to excel on small moments.

Protest Erupts

The fans made their feelings clear – directed at the board and manager – in their hundreds at full time. Club directors are reportedly likely to bring back the interim manager, who had a fruitful temporary stint last year, should a change be made.

“It’s the results [that leads to pressure]. That is the truth for the moment. But in stating that’s how it is, I am not saying that I am giving up. Absolutely not. My point is we are really close, extremely close to turn things around.”

The coach highlights the fact his team can perform strongly for one half at a time. Indeed, if not for wastefulness in front of goal they could have been better than 1-0 up. “There were positives other than the fact that we haven’t scored more goals,” he said. “I acknowledge that we lost, but it's important to stay balanced.

“The standard we had at times was exceptionally high. That happened. I could not speak so positively if it was not the case. Therefore, when it comes to wins, I said it's a repeating pattern. That’s why I said that we are really close to things turning around. But for the moment: the fine margins.”

“We produced many, many good things that we did, once more. The issue now it’s about consistency. My outlook would not be the same. Therefore I firmly believe we will manage to fix this.”

Röhl’s Cautious Response

The victorious boss played down talk of a title charge despite what felt like a statement victory. “Step by step, and we can really build up momentum,” he said. “The faith in the group is immense.”
