Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a major film company and bringing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys
The preview shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the group.
