Spurs Manager Thomas Frank Labels Goalkeeper Booers 'Not True Real Fans'

Fulham Start Strong to Beat Spurs and Raise Pressure on the Manager

Tottenham Hotspur supporters who booed keeper Guglielmo Vicario were told afterwards "those individuals cannot be true Tottenham fans" by manager Frank.

Spurs conceded a pair of scores in the opening initial moments to fall 2-1 to Fulham, marking their 10th top-flight home defeat of 2025.

However the primary talking point was Fulham's next goal when Vicario lost possession far outside his box.

He ventured out to handle a long ball and carried the ball near the touchline.

However, rather than booting it into touch, the Italian turned and attempted to clear away, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.

King laid the ball off to Welsh midfielder Wilson, who bent a shot into the goal from the sideline measured at 36.6 metres.

Seconds later when the ball came to Vicario once more, a number of Spurs supporters booed him.

Spurs were booed off at the interval, with the side 2-0 down, and once more at full-time.

One of those booing sessions really angered Frank.

"It came to my attention some of our fans reportedly booed the incident and jeered following, which, in my view is totally unacceptable," the Danish manager commented regarding the fans' reaction to his shot-stopper.

"[They] can't be true Tottenham fans that act that way. Fair enough booing after the match, fine, but when we are in play, we are supporting each other, we are behind one another going forward."

Kenny Tete had given the visitors a fourth-minute lead before Harry Wilson's goal – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Tottenham in an better second-half showing.

Former Premier League keeper Joe Hart stated that the second goal was "totally avoidable".

"I certainly understand the supporters' disappointment," the ex-keeper added. "I know the part Vicario is performing. He's a great squad member, he's a true leader in the dressing room but in the end you are going to be judged by your decisions.

"The keeper was heavily implicated in what turned out to be the decisive goal."

'It's Part of Football, I Can Handle It'

Thomas Frank Defended His Keeper Guglielmo Vicario After the Game

Italy national team the keeper is in his third season with Tottenham.

He stated after the game that he had to take the feedback.

"The second goal was a error of my own, I take accountability for it," he said.

"My aim was to clear the ball far and I simply hit the ball in a poor manner. That made an more difficult mountain to overcome."

He stated being booed "is part of the game".

"I'm a big man, what can I say?" he added. "We cannot be influenced by the circumstances in the crowd. The fans have the right to do what they think.

"It is on the team to remain increasingly calm, to focus on ourselves. We are lacking in calmness and poise to overturn results. Today is a bad defeat and it's hard to take."

'I Was Surprised Nobody Returned to the Goal Line'

Despite Vicario's mistake, it was far from an simple score for Harry Wilson to convert.

In fact it was the next most distant top division score of the season – following Tyler Adams' forty-three point three metre goal for the Cherries against the Black Cats, which interestingly also came on Saturday.

Wilson stated he was "somewhat surprised" that he still had an open goal to aim for.

Ten seconds elapsed between the keeper exiting of his area and the midfielder shooting – which was five seconds after the clearance.

"It seemed to me like the keeper was away from the area for a long time," Wilson remarked.

"I was surprised none of the back four went back to the goal line. When not one of them defended the goal, my eyes sparked somewhat.

"Udogie slipped too, which allowed me a bit of extra time. After that it was all about attempting to achieve the correct contact and place it on target. I felt a positive feeling, as soon as it came off my boot, that it was on the right line."

'When You're in a Bad Spell, Everything Seems to Work Against You'

Booing Whilst We Are Still Playing Is Completely Unacceptable - the Manager

Although Vicario's error led coverage, this was an overall poor performance for Tottenham to extend their home struggles.

The match was their tenth home loss of 2025 in the Premier League, a joint team statistic along with nineteen ninety-four and two thousand and three.

They still have home games against the manager's old side Brentford and title holders Liverpool to play prior to the end of the season.

Only one of those victories have come after the manager took over from Ange Postecoglou in the summer.

"If you are behind 2-0 after the opening, there is a huge challenge to overcome," said the boss.

"When you're in a bad spell, all aspects seems to work against you as well – the opening was a redirected attempt, the second is a error from the keeper.

"This result puts us in a position where we have lost another match. Each fixture has a unique story, this game we lost in the first six minutes.

"We simply need to keep working. The second half was significantly improved and hopefully something we can utilize to develop."

Spurs have been defeated in four consecutive home capital clashes for the first time in the Premier League.

And they are averaging nine point five attempts and 3.2 shots on target per game in the division – their poorest averages on record in a single season (dating back to 2003-04).

Former Cottagers midfield player Danny Murphy stated that the manager has to ride the storm.

"He's got take the criticism," Murphy remarked. "He's taken a prestigious role at a major team with massive anticipation. There is pressure and responsibility that comes with that.

"Their showings at their stadium have been disappointing and they have to get better {quickly|
