A high-ranking Russian military figure has been killed following an detonation in Moscow, according to an investigative body.

The incident took place on Monday morning when an bomb concealed beneath a vehicle exploded, leading to the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.

Sarvarov was the head of the armed forces' unit responsible for operational readiness.

Investigators stated that one possible explanation points to the possible involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. So far, Ukraine has remained silent.

Site of the Incident

Personnel have been sent to the site, which is said to be in a southern district of the capital.

Reports state the detonation happened in a car park close to a residential building.

Pattern of Targeted Attacks

Since the onset of the large-scale conflict in Ukraine, a number of Russian military commanders have been targeted within Moscow.

This new event comes after other notable incidents, such as:

  • General Yaroslav Moskalik was lost his life in a automobile blast in Moscow earlier this year.
  • General Igor Kirillov perished in late 2024 when a bomb placed on a scooter was triggered from afar.

While a source from Ukraine earlier connected Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such allegations are never officially confirmed as a matter of standard practice.

The war has witnessed shadowy operations extending into the heart of the Russian capital.

The probe into General Sarvarov's death continues to be active.
