The British tennis star earned the most notable win of his career by rebounding from a lost first set to overcome top-ranked player Carlos Alcaraz with a stunning comeback in the second round of the Paris Masters.

While he had earlier beaten Alcaraz on two prior meetings, this triumph marks Norrie's maiden success over a current world top-ranked player.

"Huge. So big for me," commented Norrie, who joins as the latest UK male player in history to defeat a top-ranked player. "Coming back from health issues last year, I lost in the opening stage of qualies here. I just aimed to embrace my game in the second half of the year. To secure a win like this, it's the biggest success of my tennis journey, my initial victory over the top player and probably the strongest player in the world right now."

The British player, ranked 31st in the world, also stopped Alcaraz's impressive sequence of nine consecutive finals and 17 successive elite tournament wins, which marked the best series of results in the Spaniard's young career.

Game Analysis

The top seed appeared to be advancing smoothly to success at the start as he cruised past the first set. Yet, Norrie gradually worked himself into contention by delivering with greater precision and dragging the Spaniard into lengthy, grueling exchanges. His persistent consistency and consistency slowly made an impact.

During large parts of the battle, Alcaraz performed well on serve but he had difficulty to find his timing off his groundstrokes. The 22-year-old appeared notably uncomfortable executing his signature shot, which has been the most effective stroke in the game for a large part of this season, producing 29 forehand unforced errors and a combined of 54 mistakes. On the other side, the British player presented Alcaraz very few errors, maintaining his reliability, athleticism and power the entire contest while serving efficiently and selecting opportunities to move inside the baseline and play aggressively.

Alcaraz, in spite of his incredible accomplishments, is yet to master how to display his finest performance indoors.
