Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Ignites Heated Discussions Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a new playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but features several notable adjustments:

  • Each team includes only eight real players, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Actions done by real players grant complete experience points, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
  • Only two maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.

So essentially, the playlist lives up to its title: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it gives more options for players looking for alternative ways to enjoy the title. But, if video games has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are mad.

Community Reactions: From Fury to Praise

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," states a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," says a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," while someone else details all the issues they consider to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this title all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," states a different comment. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," while another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Criticisms and Player Input

All that said, players have valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it could increase wait times even longer for different playlists because of the large amount of options in the game already. Similarly, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was meant to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base compromising in the middle, according to forum feedback. Another describes this mode as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

Should the development team has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and acting on player input. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
