One police sergeant that leaped to the aid of a colleague who was ambushed by a knifeman has been awarded the Monarch's Honor for Bravery.

Sgt Tim Ansell struggled against 27-year-old Jacob Brown after he placed a blade to the neck of his colleague Sergeant Marc Foster.

Brown initiated the assault as the officers and their colleague, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a driver subsequent to a road collision in the area in mid-2023.

Brown stabbed and slashed the two Sergeant Ansell and Sgt Foster prior to PC Wolstencroft stopped him with a electric weapon.

"Officer knifed," PC Wolstencroft was heard to say over his radio.

Bodyworn and vehicle camera footage released by the agency showed Brown, wearing in dark clothing with a hood covering head, approach to Sgt Foster from behind with a weapon outstretched.

He struck the policeman who lost balance and went down to the ground, before Sergeant Ansell jumped in and struggled to restrain him to the floor despite being repeatedly struck with the weapon.

PC Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and awaited a safe opportunity, bringing the fight to an conclusion.

Sergeant Ansell can be heard to say: "Can I get something on my neck here, I'm bleeding in the throat."

Sgt Ansell sustained two deep cuts to his neck and additional injuries to his limbs and torso, whereas Sgt Foster experienced slash wounds.

Officials stated Sgt Foster employed his hands to stem his partner's bleeding prior to medical personnel came.

The new award arrives subsequent to the three officers won departmental Bravery Awards in October 2023 and the prestigious bravery honor from the regional Police Federation in April 2024.

They were also awarded a Area Valor Recognition in July 2024.

"The responses of each policeman in the end protected one another and ensured no civilians endured any injuries."

Brown was given to an indefinite hospital order in spring 2024, according to officials.
